Our Story
My Hair Is Easy was birthed by a poem created by storyteller and multidisciplinary artist, Latifat Busari, from a distateful experience around their hair. The poem served as a reminder, an affirmation of sorts, that Black hair is not hard; it is merely misunderstood.
In 2024, My Hair Is Easy launched in Edmonton, Alberta, originally structured alongside Kijo Gatama, the founder of RECHIQUE, aiming to engage Black audiences in unlearning negative internalized perceptions of Black Hair.
My Hair Is Easy is committed to dismantling these narratives as a community, fostering a supportive environment, and encouraging each participant to embrace the beauty and versatility of their Black hair.
